Creative Necessity: An Economic Impact Study of Arts and Cultural Organizations in East King County

Norm Johnson introduced Mary Pat Byrne, Arts Specialist for the City of Bellevue since 1987, and Doug McCallum, President of Eastside Arts Coalition and a member of the Rotary Club of Bellevue. Doug said his “abiding love for the arts and the link between arts and business” has always been an interest of his. “But, who benefits most from this association?”  MORE

Truancy Board Volunteer Needed
The Bellevue School District has asked our club if we can support them with a volunteer to be part of a truancy board for high school students. The duty would require meeting approximately three hours per month in a mediation-type setting to help families determine courses of action for students with serious absentee problems. Meetings would take place at Sammamish High School. If you are interested, please contact Tom Smith (Ph 425-644-7013). Your help will be much appreciated!

BBRC Retreat Alert

John Martinka
John Martinka, with beer mug.

John Martinka, one of the promoters of the annual planning Retreat announced some heavy competition on Friday night, April 5. In addition to the reception and dinner, plus a surprise mystery speaker, John exhorted all attendees to “bring your favorite beer mug! We’ll have a contest and vote on the group favorites.” John brought samples of different kinds of mugs. John DeWater showed a Rotary beer mug, which had a 4-way test on the back! This is important stuff, amid all the beer mug contests. It’s the annual Planning Retreat, where the work of Rotary really gets serious. If you want a say in what your Rotary Club does in the coming year, then you’ll want to be registered for the Retreat, April 5-6, at Port Ludlow, WA. Registration available soon by email.

Update on Nancy
”My new name is Nancy Y. Prior.

My husband's name is Colin and he is from Crawley, West Sussex, England. He is the CEO of an Internet services (ASP-Application Service Provider) company. It is an online survey company called NetReflector, and BBRC uses its "tool" InstantSurvey for registration at our events. Pro bono of course!

After our wedding in Crawley on 02/02/02, we honeymooned in Sydney, Australia (2 days) and New Zealand (19 days). Traveled both islands of NZ, saw lots (and lots) of sheep and lots of cows. Met some really nice people and even learned to say "Kia Ora" (Kiora) or hello in the Maori language.”

Nancy, who has more energy that several Rotarians put together, reminds all members to respond to a broadcast email coming soon for registration to the BBRC Retreat. And, for your records, Nancy can be reached by email at nancy@2alpha.com.

Thought for the Week
