Update on Trans-Lake Project
Help Us Move Closer to Breaking Gridlock on State Route 520

We want to know what you think. Which of the eight alternatives the Trans-Lake Washington Project is evaluating for improving mobility in the SR 520 corridor should continue to be evaluated and designed? Over the past months, the project team has been developing additional information on local traffic impacts, connections to I-5 and I-405, and potential community enhancements. This additional work will guide the Washington Department of Transportation and Sound Transit as they move forward with the environmental review process. A draft environmental impact statement will be published for review and comment around spring 2003.

Two open houses are scheduled for this winter so you can review the new information and share your thoughts on which alternatives should be carried forward. The open houses will be Tuesday, January 15th, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the North Bellevue Senior Center in Bellevue, and Thursday, January 17th, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle. Both open houses will have the same information and format. The input received from the community will be incorporated, as much as possible, during the design work and will be forwarded to the project’s committees to consider as part of their decision-making process.

The eight alternatives being considered are:

  • 1 Alternative one: no action
  • 2 Alternative two: add safety and preservation improvements and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520 and light rail transit on I-90
  • 3 Alternative three: add a high occupancy vehicle lane and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520 and light rail transit on I-90
  • 4 Alternative four: add a high occupancy vehicle lane, a general purpose lane, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520, and light rail transit on I-90
  • 5 Alternative five: add a high occupancy vehicle lane, high capacity transit, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520
  • 6 Alternative six: add a high occupancy vehicle lane, a general purpose lane, high capacity transit, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520
  • 7 Alternative seven: add a high occupancy vehicle lane, with bus rapid transit connections, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520
  • 8 Alternative eight: add a high occupancy vehicle lane, with bus rapid transit connections, a general purpose lane, and bicycle/pedestrian facilities on SR 520
