 BBRC Shows Its Mettle

Jeff Cashman
Jeff Cashman, making the pitch.

Jeff Cashman made the pitch for support of member’s contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in response to the terrible attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Jeff cited the Club’s past solicitations going back to the it’s first year for Rotary’s PolioPlus, when over $10,000 was pledged; and help for a family flooded out during dangerous floods in 1990 in the Skykomish River valley – over $6,000 was raised. Numerous other special appeals helped people around the world suffering from floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornados. “Never in my worst dreams did I think I’d be up here to talk about an event that killed or injured 13,000 people in our own country. To show our support for this appeal, the Board of Directors has voted to add $1,000 to the total of contributions. We’re in this for the long haul. This is the beginning of a journey. Thank you all for participating.”

With Mary Truesdell handling the accounting chores for this special one-day fundraiser, the day’s contributions totaled $6,228, with the BBRC’s matching $1,000 and another match from Microsoft of $1,000, matching their employee Bill Spencer’s $1,000.

So, at publication time, the total going to the Red Cross is $8,228, with other members who didn’t have the opportunity to contribute adding more to that total this week. President Goldfarb said he is “proud of the BBRC for stepping up to deliver relief to the victims’ families, workers, and neighbors. Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club has not lost its touch for reaching down and coming up with help when it’s needed. Congratulations to each member.”
