The Use of Ritalin in Our Society
Program Chair Jenny Andrews announced that the previously scheduled program had to cancel, but she was happy to introduce Dr. Peter Stadelman, Chiropractor, and one of the newest members of the BBRC. Peter was educated in Minnesota before setting up his practice in Bellevue about five years ago. He chose to discuss the use of Ritalin as it relates to the children in our community, to present facts about the drug, and ask some questions. MORE

HELPING OUR CHILDREN
Members of the BBRC who deal daily with the kinds of turmoil we’ve witnessed this week have relied on resources that are very helpful at this time. With the lead offered by Scott Sadler, there’s a resource called “Talking With Children,” which we’d like to share with you.
Talking With Children When the Talking Gets Tough

We have been witnesses to the most trying time in our history. Although the crashing of airliners into buildings in New York and Washington, D.C., may not outrank some of the other terrible things that happen to a nation, the fact that television propelled us to the scene makes us witnesses to a crime. As daily events unfold, we will continue to witness a most troubling time in America’s history. Let us pray that God will deliver us from further evil while we look to Him for guidance. And may God also bring closure to the victim’s families and praise for the thousands who have labored to rescue survivors. Be careful not to encourage the kind of response given by one child: “I don’t care if there’s a war, as long as it doesn’t affect me and my family.”

On this week after September 11, 2001, Reveille presents some selected articles that may give new perspectives to our troubled hearts.

A Column by Leonard Pitts, Jr., of the Miami Herald, on the events of September 11
We'll go forward from this moment.

It's my job to have something to say. They pay me to provide words that help make sense of that which troubles the American soul. But in this moment of airless shock when hot tears sting disbelieving eyes, the only thing I can find to say, the only words that seem to fit, must be addressed to the unknown author of this suffering. Eye of the Storm: One Journey
Through Desperation and Chaos
By John Bussey
Staff Reporter, The Wall Street Journal
NEW YORK – If there's only one sight I'll remember from the destruction of the World Trade Center, it is the flight of desperation – a headlong leap from the top-most floors by those who chose a different death than the choking smoke and flame. Some fell swinging their arms and legs, looking down as the street came up at them. Others fell on their backs, peering upward toward the flames and sky. They dropped like deadweight, several seconds, hopeless and unhelpable.

America: The Good Neighbor
Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator.
