Doug Engberg and Sharon Edberg [R] greet Susan Harrison.
|
President Steve Goldfarb called the meeting to order. Sharon Edberg gave the invocation, and Doug Engberg introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Among the visiting Rotarians were several members from the Fremont Club, about $100 worth of members, in fact.
In honor of the visit of Bob Wilson, District 5030 Governor, and a former veterinarian, Doug Engberg asked each visiting Rotarian to state his or her favorite pet. One of the Fremont Club members certainly must have won the “Doctor Doolittle Prize,” stating that he and his wife had kept a western painted turtle in their bathtub for 23 years. He added that they had the prudence to remove the turtle from the tub before they showered.
John Martinka

John Martinka substituted as Sergeant at Arms, corralling a number of BBRC members who showed up without their Rotary pins. All but Lorraine Gunderson opted to buy a pin for $3 each. Lorraine took her chances with the throw of a die, with her fine to be whatever came up. This turned out to be a good move on Lorraine’s part, as she came up with a snake eye.
Nancy Isely-Fletcher gets her red badge from President Steve Goldfarb.
|
Nancy Isely-Fletcher traded in her red badge for a blue badge. Being a good Rotarian, she confessed to not having done one invocation, as required by the rules, but finessed that quickly by exclaiming, “Thank God,” as she sat down with her blue badge.

Rourke O’Brien

Jan Nestler, Director of Eastside Adult Day Services (EADS), reminisced a bit about the first fundraiser held for EADS in 1984 which was put on by BBRC. This was all by way of inviting anyone interested to the first annual fundraiser benefitting Eastside Adult Day Services. Called “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” the benefit will be held December 12, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., at the Rainbow Run Putting Course at Willows Run Golf Course, 10402 Willows Road, Redmond. The cost is $20 for individuals and $45 for families of three or more. Please let Jan know if you are interested in attending.
Rourke O’Brien, former Sergeant at Arms and now Chair of the BBRC Membership Committee, reminded all that a theme of Rotary International is “Global Quest – One New Member Every Month.” It looks like the BBRC is well ahead of that ambitious goal.
