 Classification Talk

Carlene Buty
Carlene Buty

Carlene Buty gave her classification talk Friday. We don’t know if she can sing like Loretta Lynn, but she does claim to be a coal miner’s daughter from Roslyn, Washington. Being as she is of Italian extraction, she recounted one of her first business endeavors, an Italian import shop with two real Italian partners. The trio purchased a container of goods in Italy, which, unfortunately, would not sell in Seattle. Carlene’s partners returned to Italy with the goods, promising to return them to the wholesaler and refund Carlene’s money. Carlene, being a loyal business partner, is still patiently waiting for that money – 15 years later!

Carlene has put her education and home economics degrees to work as a consultant in the restaurant business, and she learned the fundraising business well, growing up in Catholic schools and churches. After nine years of fundraising for Providence Hospital in Seattle, she became the Director of Major Gifts at Overlake Hospital.

Carlene not only attended the District Conference, but attended the International Rotary Convention in San Antonio in June. Although she did not state it in her classification talk, Carlene’s husband, Frank, is the current President of the “other” Bellevue Rotary Club.

Welcome aboard, Carlene.
