The BBRC’s Rotary exchange student for 1999-2000, Marina Petribu, paid a surprise visit Friday with her mother, Mariene de Morais Petribu and sister Julianna, all from Recife, Brazil. Mrs. Petrib’ rose to thank the Club for its $1,000 contribution to the Lighthouse Program in her city. The donation was made in Mrs. Petribu’s husband’s name. Mr. Petribu died last year, and the BBRC felt moved to honor Marina and her father with the contribution. The touring group was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Redmond, one of Marina’s hosts while she spent her year in Washington.
Mrs. Petribu was united with Kevin Jewell, Chairman of the World Community Service Committee at the time of the donation. A hearty round of applause greeted the visitors. Click on links below to view PDF files of letters exchanged:
