 Report From San Antonio

Goldfarb
Howdy, partner! Goldfarb, fresh from his trip to San Antonio.

“You could have sent me to Scotland or Singapore or Barcelona, but instead, you sent me to San Antonio, Texas!” noted our new President, Steven Goldfarb. Donning a rawhide cowboy hat and attaching a Rotary pin as big as a muskrat swimming the Perdanales, Steve said you haven’t lived until you attend a Rotary International Convention.

“With 25,000 attendees, Rotarians literally took over central San Antonio. The Virtual Convention race was won by the BBRC, with 98% of our members registering. We are now looking for the three who didn’t!”

Goldfarb said that President Richard King’s major goal is to increase membership. “After six years of falling numbers, President King says it’s time to turn that around. Every Rotary Club is being asked to induct one new member each month. We’re also being challenged to find new ways to get our membership involved and to enhance public relations throughout our community so we can effectively explain to someone who asks, ‘What is Rotary?’”

Mr. President told of the origin of this year’s theme. One of Richard King’s favorite writings is Dickens’ Christmas Carol. When Jacob Marley returns to haunt old Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob says, “Mankind is my business.” And, that’s our theme for the year.
