Wally Mahoney reads a lot and shares his reading with others. He sent off an email to Jim Givan
on new books about the Marine Corps. Here’s Jim’s reply:
I note with interest your amazement that Marines CAN read and write.
Haven't read this latest by Brady but the reading list for Marines is extensive, as we obviously have a lot to learn. George Clark's "Devil Dogs," about Marines in WWI, is excellent (Presidio Press 1999) and James Bradley's "Flags of Our Fathers" (Bantam Books 2000) is an outstanding account of that which surrounds the flag raising at Iwo Jima.
For your edification, information, and further amazement you might like to know that the Commandant of the Marine Corps publishes an
official reading list of books oriented to the various ranks, including for General Officers, so that all hands can speak with some authority about their profession.
Living in a place, which idolizes Bobby Knight and Dan Quayle, gives you some notion of the level of intellect with which I have to
deal. Fortunately Rotary gives me some challenge – bringing it up to Seattle's standards is a start. Working on it.
At the moment white lumpy rain is the issue. Thanks for staying in touch.

President Cary shared two letters with the Club Friday:
District Governor John Nelson thanked the Club for its hospitality and
told how he enjoyed judging the “Creative Tie Contest.”
Dorene Marchione’s letter on behalf of Hopelink thanked the BBRC
for its continued support of that organization’s programs. Dorene noted the receipt of the final payment of $16,000 to complete the pledge of
$40,000 made by the BBRC. “All buildings are up and running, supporting dozens of programs and hundreds of deserving people.”
