The Rotary Strollers – A Glance At The Past

During a two-year period from 1988 through 1989, a group of BBRC members chronically met each Tuesday and Thursday morning at 5:30 a.m. for a 4.4 mile walk along the shores of the Sammamish Slough. Quoting from the Reveille, Volume 2, No. 12, Page 2, for September 18, 1989, “The Breakfast Rotary Walking Rotarians continue their relentless onslaught on the ever-elusive calorie and ugly body fat. Each Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30 a.m., the intrepid exercisers embark on their 4.4 mile trek from the Marymoor Park parking lot beyond the main gate. Current walkers include Don Chandler, Rod Proctor, Rowland Brasch, Steve Hunter, and Sam Bisignano. It is rumored that Walking Rotarians co-founder John Mix will return for a cameo appearance this week to commemorate the first anniversary of this worthwhile endeavor.”

Now, here it is November, 2000, with Chandler and Mix chatting in the Glendale Country Club parking lot on Friday, discussing the need to continue the exercise. A lot of names have gone by the wayside since this group first started, and maybe there are some new members who need to get their heart-rate up on a brisk morning walk. If you have an interest, give Don Chandler a holler or John Mix.

With email and other modern contraptions, it may be real easy to stir up a group for some serious walking. Let’s see what shakes out!
