First Quarter Club Assembly

A good crowd heard from the activity directors regarding their goals for the remainder of the Rotary year. Coordinated by President Cary Kopczynski, each of six directors presented reports on activities to date. More

Rotarian Of The Month

Johnson, Kopczynski
Rotarian of the Month is Norm Johnson, "the sparkplug" of the BBRC. So says President Kopczynski.

A little behind the ROTM schedule, President Cary bestowed the August honor on a gentleman who has given many fine years to the BBRC. Norm Johnson has finished his term as a member of the Board of Directors, completing five years of service to the Club. During his tenure, Norm performed two years as Club Secretary, chaired the Annual Golf Outing for two successive years, and volunteered to run the raffle. “Norm is a sparkplug in our club and has really earned his Rotarian-of-the-Month award,” said President Kopczynski. Congratulations, Norm!

West Seattle Challenge Captured by BBRC

With 42% of the Club attending the West Seattle Rotary Club meeting on September 26, the BBRC outdrew the West Seattle crew who had pulled in 40 % of their club to attend a previous BBRC meeting. At stake was a $100 bill, going to the winning club. President Cary Kopczynski led his troops to victory, with 47 members, 3 wives, and 1 prospective member showing up for the BBRC. More

Projects Brewing At Sammamish High

Thanks to coordinated efforts by Wally Mahoney, the BBRC has re-connected with Sammamish High School with several projects on the near horizon.

In cooperation with the Sammamish Honor Society president Doan Si Bui, a group of SHS students will join with the BBRC for the annual tree-planting project on the Sammamish River. The project is set to take place on Saturday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. More

NEW MEMBER PROPOSED
Doug Engberg, Director of Development for Christa Ministries, has been approved for membership by the Board of Directors. Engberg is sponsored by Alan Pratt and co-sponsored by Tony Banks. His proposed classification is “Education: At-Risk Youth.”

Doug has worked in his present position with Christa for one year. His community involvement has been with Work Coalition with inner-city leaders on economic development issues. He likes to golf, hike, and exercise.

Doug is no relation to Sharon Edberg. For comments or questions regarding this proposal, email Bob McNulty, Director of Club Service II, or phone him at (425) 885-1558. Comment time closes at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2000.

ROTARY FIRST HARVEST
Each October, Rotary First Harvest conducts a fund raising event, seeking donations to help it do its job better. Earl Falk, BBRC representative to the RFH, told the Club that 4.4 million pounds of fruits and vegetables have been collected and distributed the past year to the state’s food banks. RFH converts every dollar donated to 25-50 pounds of food for families in Washington. The fundraising project continues through October. Please make plans to make a special gift to this extraordinary Rotary project.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
You can preach a better sermon with your life, not your lips.
