ADMIN CORNER

Mix has been in the corner for several weeks now, and he is about ready to come out of hiding. A word of advice: don’t have too many “procedures” in a short period of time! Remember to keep your account current and continue doing make-ups. The Retention Committee would like to see us all above 70%! Happy Anniversary, BBRC!

Trip to Slovakia

As he announced at the last meeting, John Martinka has a trip planned to Slovakia to install six computer labs (100 computers) in schools there. This is a project with Newport HS (the kids will do most of the work) and our RI matching grant is being processed. Approval is expected in about one month.

Here are the details regarding this trip:

  • Leaving the night of April 7 on SAS (7:00 p.m. departure) and arrive in Prague the night of April 8.

  • April 10, drive to Zilina, Slovakia (about a 4.5-5 hour drive)

  • A week stay, driving back to Prague on April 17

  • Departure for the students is the morning of April 18, arriving home about 5:00 p.m.

John and his family are staying longer. Anyone interested in the trip can fly over with the group, back with the group, meet there, etc. The location of the project is about two hours from Krakow, Poland, and about the same from the Tatra Mountains. You can help out a bit on the project or just enjoy yourself. There are a lot of old castles, plenty of outdoor activities like hiking, biking (the Rotary there put in a network of bike trails), exploring historical sites, etc. There is also shopping and art (especially in Prague and Krakow). About 15K from where we will be based is a spa town with natural hot springs. Once you’re there the costs are incredibly low compared to here.

If you’d like more info, contact John Martinka. Plans are being made now.
