ROAR1

THIS WEEK

Neil Nicoll, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle, will discuss the emerging epidemic in children’s and adults’ diseases because of inactivity and obesity. Bring a guest to Friday’s meeting, 7:00 a.m., Glendale Country Club.

ADMIN CORNER

Billing is in your hands. This is an important quarter for Rotary — the Fourth and final quarter of the current Rotary Year. This is also the last quarter for Treasurer Burnett to balance the books. This is difficult if you have a classification such as Exotic Taxation. Help her by paying promptly. It is also critical that members who have a Paul Harris pledge pay promptly, so those monies can be forwarded to RI prior to June 30. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Classification Talk: LeeAnn Wood

x0411WoodLeeAnn Wood is a new BBRC member, sponsored by John Sheeran. Her Classification Talk stems from her new classification of “Fundraising, Healthcare.” LeeAnn grew up in North Seattle, graduated from Ingraham High School, went to WSU and earned an Accounting degree.

Fresh out of college, LeeAnn met some people in Principal Financial Group and was convinced she could sell insurance (as an estate planner). “I was not overly successful!” She met Sharon Edberg (yes, that Sharon Edberg!) who whetted her interest in charitable giving. Her first job was head of the office of gift planning at the Union Gospel Mission. “I smoked back then, and couldn’t smoke anywhere on the job, so I found Ed the Barber next door willing to battle second-hand smoke. After I left, Ed always sent me a birthday card!”

“I then took a job with Easter Seals, where I first learned about Rotary. Easter Seals was founded by a group of Rotarians in Ohio. For the past five years, I’ve been associated with Overlake Hospital Medical Center Foundation as Vice President of Development.”

LeeAnn had high praise for her husband, Daniel. “He’s an extraordinary man ... accepts people as they are. He’s been a big part of my success. Overlake is a house of miracles. I’m so happy to be working there. I think everyone needs to be a part of something and I’ve been impressed with the physicians and nurses at Overlake who are very merciful and compassionate people. Now, I have a sense of responsibility to the community and that’s why I jumped at the chance to join the BBRC.”

Welcome, LeeAnn, to the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club!
