ADMIN CORNER

We’ve turned the corner on the final quarter of the current Rotary Year. Fourth Quarter billing will be mailed Monday, April 4. A reminder to all new Rotarians and those who may want an upgrade on their directory photo: Larry Gill will set up his portrait studio on Friday, April 22 to take color photos for inclusion in the BBRC Directory. Among the candidates for a shoot include Aragon, Erickson, Giner and Kelly Nolan, plus any new members who will have joined by that time. Mark your calendars.

Classification Talk: Rodd Kippen

x0328KippenOn of the club’s newest members gave his Classification talk. Rodd Kippen, a native of South Africa, lived in his home country for 45 years before moving to the United States. “There are 11 official languages in South Africa, and I speak 3. Counting American, that would be four!”

Rodd great up in a time of political unrest. “It’s great to live in a country where you are free (US). This is an interesting and beautiful place. I received my early training at a university in Johannesburg, where I earned a bachelor degree and two masters degrees. I’ve been married 30 years and have three grown children, Anthony, 27, Amanda, 26, and Michael, 21.”

“How did we get to America? The Immigration and Naturalization Service has an annual green card lottery. Some 45,000 cards are available. We had visited America and fallen in love with theUS. I won the lottery in 1997, and I became an American citizen last year.”

Rodd moved to Seattle to carry on his work as a Quantity Surveyor a construction project manager. He worked in the cost management division where he did projects for Costco International and other big box retail firms. He traveled a lot, and then he and his wife Noreen — who also had experience in the field — started their own company, ‘Pro-Cost, formed a year ago. “Our target market is to provide estimating and services to the construction industry. Home Depot is a new client. We work in the field of dispute resolution, operating as independent arbiters.

"We’re blessed to have children with us in our new adventure. I’ve traveled 1.2 million miles on business the past six years. Seattle is great place to live. We’re active in the Foursquare church and looking forward to contribute to Rotary.”
