ADMIN CORNER

This Friday, Tom Smith takes over the editor’s chair to publish next week’s Reveille. Tom will be ably assisted by Photographer Jim Kindsvater and Master Designer and Web Grunt Robin Stark.

For those members who are in need of a photo for their directory page, we’ll be taking another round of pictures in mid-April. Look for the time, date and place.

We’re into the final month of Rotary’s 3rd Quarter. Boy, does time fly! The Treasurer would like to inform those members who have yet to fulfill their billing obligations to kindly enclose payment as soon as possible. Your cooperation is gratefully accepted.

Don Chandler and Dick Brown presented an update on the club’s efforts toward reaching its Rotary Foundation goals. Chandler — speaking for his sidekick Don Deasy, who is spending time on the beach in Maui while flying back to Seattle every two works for out-patient chemotherapy — told the club that “significant recognition of member’s accomplishments were to be noted today.”

Don said the committee’s goal was to have commitment of everyone by Dec 31. “We didn’t quite make that goal of Every Rotarian, Every Year, but we’re making good progress toward our dollar goal.” Club members are asked to commit $300 per member with a club goal of $30,000. Chandler said $18,755 has been collected or pledged so far.

Fifty-two members have yet to make a commitment or a donation.

Recognized for their Foundation achievements Friday were Ted Ederer, two sapphires on a Foundation pin, representing $3000 to RF; Howard Johnson, three sapphires, or $4000; Dick Tschetter, five sapphires, $6000; Rick Klobucher, five sapphires, and $6000.

Steve Roberts told the audience that he’d just returned from Haiti, where he learned that people in a remote village had to walk five miles for drinking water. This daily 10-mile trip was eliminated with a pipe and spigot installed by a project supported by local and US Rotary clubs, and the Rotary Foundation. Steve saw the Foundation in action on his vacation.

Dick Brown capsulized the BBRC’s history with the Rotary Foundation by saying that the club has raised over $300,000 in direct contributions and, “combined with the funds collected annually in our raffle, the club is approaching $2 million in money collected for charity. Over 900,000 Rotarians are Paul Harris Fellows. Reading the pages of The Rotarian Magazine gives the reader endless stories of the good the Foundation does. We can all be proud of our Rotary Foundation.”
