From Good to Great

District Governor John Jacob Gardiner has refocused the emphasis for the final five months of his term, calling it “From Good to Great. The first six months were very good by all measures of membership growth, Foundation giving and community service projects. We accomplished in six months what the average Rotary district in the United States does in a year.”

The Governor asks the question: “Will Rotarians choose great?” Elements of a great closing effort this year would be a 15% growth in membership, including new clubs sponsored; $250 or more contribution for The Rotary Foundation's Annual Programs; and more and better involvement of our members in service locally and internationally.

A major focus is now on the Portland District Conference. Governor Gardiner is asking each club president to secure “a high percentage of club membership to attend the Portland District Conference.”

Gardiner says, “I promise you nothing less than the biggest and best district conference ever, with great speakers like Arun Gandhi, PRIP Rick King, Lynn Brewer, and the Pacific Northwest's most globally celebrated band, Pink Martini, gaining notoriety by a January gig with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall. The band has agreed to sell CDs after the Saturday night performance in Portland for $15 each, donating $5 for each CD to The Rotary Foundation.”

SPECIAL THANKS to the 444 registered to date (with another 35 GSE team members, Ambassadorial Scholars, Peace Scholar, speakers, and exchange students having made commitments to be there), a total of 479 registrants. Please help us cross 500 by January 30; 600 by February; 700 by March; and 800 by April 30. It CAN be done.

On Saturday night, May 1, the March of Presidents will take place, PRIP Rick King will speak, and Portland's greatest band, Pink Martini, will play. Portland Rotarians will fill the hall to a maximum of 1,000 people. With YOUR help, it CAN be done.
