Cyril Faulkner
|
Cyril Faulkner, classification “Dirt Accountant,” paid tribute to his sponsor Phil Salvatori. Cyril was born in Sierra Leone, Freetown, West Africa, established by freed slaves from America – “home of diamonds and civil war. I was one of 12 kids — we almost had a soccer team!” Cyril’s dad served in the British Navy.
Cyril is married and has a 20-year-old son who attends BCC. “Before I got married, my mother told me, ‘If you want to marry, you train a duck. If you’re successful, you can then marry.’ What she didn’t tell me was, you can’t train a duck to do anything!”
Cyril attended college, getting a degree in business. Later, after he’d moved to Canada, he passed the exam to become a chartered accountant. He joined Sungro, a Canadian firm known as the dirt company. He spent 13 years with the company, rising to the position of company Controller. “Life was great, until we decided to part company.” Cyril is currently reorganizing his opportunities and would welcome any suggestions from club members. His interests center around his love of people.
In closing, Cyril said, “It’s a privilege to be in Rotary, for I love to serve.” Cyril is active in his Church as an administrator, a member of the choir, and a kids’ counselor. He co-founded DayStar Adopt a Village program.
Alex Rule was Cyril’s prompter. Cyril took Alex as his role model in extending his classification talk. A good time was had by all!!
