New Paul Harris Award Winners
Chuck Barnes, looking fit (at 70 – happy birthday!) and sporting his new stint in the artery of his heart, didn’t miss a beat as he welcomed five new Paul Harris Fellows into Rotary. Receiving recognition was Polly Stansell, Jeff Maxwell, and Allie Spencer each with a beautiful framed award; Bill Spencer, receiving his sapphire pin for two PH Fellows; and Don Chandler, also receiving his second sapphire pin.
Chuck noted that the Rotary’s Annual Fund “will never pass away. It’s the fuel that keeps Rotary spreading goodwill, understanding, and the quest for peace each year throughout the world. Rotarians have traditionally donated over $65 million annually to stoke such winning programs as Group Study Exchange, Ambassadorial Scholarships and 3-H Grants.” Chuck was justifiably proud of the work the BBRC did this past year to support not one, but two campaigns in one. “You Rotarians contributed $42,000 to the Annual Fund and the Polio Eradication Campaign, far exceeding our previous year’s best at $18,000. This year, our goal is $150 per member, with the District asking to ratchet things up a bit to become a ‘Double Sustainer,’ or $200 per member. The Club’s current goal is $18,000.
