A Valentine’s Day Gift from Ethiopia
Margie Burnett shows an Ethipian basket.
|
A special fundraiser swooshed through Glendale Friday when Margie Burnett offered 20 quaint, multi-colored, hand-woven baskets from her recent trip to Ethiopia. “I bought these beautiful little baskets from a Rotarian in Addis Ababa with the idea that I might be able to raise some resources for the Rotary Club there.” What Margie proposed to do was have each member at each table auction off the basket, with each member putting some cash in the basket. Margie reports the total amount raised was $780.60! All of the proceeds will be forwarded to the Rotary Club of Addis Ababa to be used in support of their projects for the children of Ethiopia.
Jane Kuechle was the top bidder with a price of $70. The table with Rourke, Alex, Mark, Bob, Polly and guest combined their resources to contribute $67. Three baskets remain for anyone who wants to have a silent auction. Thanks to everyone who participated. Later in the year, Margie will give an update on how the money was used.
