The State of the Bellevue School District

A frequent visitor to the BBRC, Mike Riley, Superintendent of the Bellevue School District since 1996, brought the Club up to date on the state of education in the Bellevue community. Mike, introduced by his former Deputy Superintendent, Howard Johnson, is beginning his seventh year as leader of the school district.

After having taught and worked as a school principal in Chicago and then in administration at the Fredrick, Maryland, Baltimore County School District, where he served over 100,000 students, according to HoJo, Dr. Riley arrived in Bellevue with “grand ideas, hinging on the elevation of duties of school principals and a program to increase academic performance. All of this costs money, and as Deputy Superintendent, it was my job to warn Mike about the lack of funds. MORE

Anniversary Dinner Friday

Peter Powell, Fellowship Committee Chaairperson, reminded members of the Club’s 17th Anniversary Dinner this Friday evening. Invitations were sent by email and the Committee needs them back no later than November 12. The event is at the Harbor Club in Bellevue. It begins at 5:00 p.m. with a reception, followed by dinner and program. Winners of the BBRC Raffle will be announced and well as other surprises. Make your reservations IMMEDIATELY!

Thanksgiving Baskets

There are two more opportunities to help hungry families prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Bring food listed on the Community Service committee’s flyer to the next two meetings, including this Friday’s Anniversary dinner. Final pickup will be Friday, November 22. MORE

OOTNSPAOAS (One or Two-Name Schools Pitted Against One Another Scores)

Time ran out with the ball on the goal line. Yale beat Brown, Alfred downed Thiel, Bates blanked Hamilton, Johns Hopkins squeaked by Franklin & Marshall, Rowan edged William Paterson, and Washington & Lee beat Emory & Henry. That oughta ‘bout do it for the season, fans. But, here’s a late score you won’t believe: Nazarene 42, Assemblies of God, 0!

Tune in again next season, when Stephen F. Austin takes on Sam Houston! And Zidar wins a rematch with Deasy!
