Use Your Cranium
Rourke O’Brien
introduced Richard Tait, founder of Cranium, Inc., purveyor of the best-selling board game, Cranium.

Richard, a transplanted Scot, came to this country in search of a business education, having found that it was impossible to get into a business school in his native land without business experience. Lured by visions of beaches and bikinis, as seen in the television series CHIPS, Richard thought for sure he would go to school in Southern California, but ended up receiving an MBA from Dartmouth. With expectations of working for Steve Jobs at Apple, he discovered that they would not hire him without a green card. Microsoft, however, hired him and promised to get him a green card. After ten very successful years with Microsoft, he left the company in search of something more, but having no idea what that something would be. MORE

Update on Frank Stillo
Frank Stillo had a heart attack on March 6. This came in the middle of his fourth round of chemotherapy for his leukemia, which has been doing a good job of resisting the treatments. Frank is in Overlake Hospital and is scheduled for an angioplasty. If they can get his heart settled down, they will put him on the bone marrow transplant list for the lymphoma. Good thoughts and wishes would be appreciated.

Vocation at Work Committee

Norm Johnson
Norm Johnson

Norm Johnson is looking for a few good members, 10 to be exact. Through BBRC’s involvement with HopeLink, including a $20,000 major grant to the organization, BBRC is participating in a pre-employment program through HopeLink, with a training session on March 13. Norm is looking for members to participate in the classes, as time allows, to conduct mock interviews for prospective job applicants, and to find places for internships of as many as 20 hours per week. The state funds the internship program, but interns are needed.

An introduction to Hopelink for BBRC members, guests, and families will be held Wednesday, March 13th, at 700 p.m., at the Hopelink offices in Redmond, 16225 N.E. 87th in Redmond.

For more information on this event or to volunteer as an intern, please contact Norm Johnson (Ph 425-462-8088 x 22).

An Ambassadorial Scholar Turns Cartoonist
This email was passed on to us by Rosemary Aragon, DGE, 5030.)

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

I am forwarding this to you in the hopes that you will visit this site. David Kellet was one of our outbound Ambassadorial Scholars a few years ago who went to England to study the comic strips of WW2 and how they can be international in appealing. I hope that you might enjoy this former Ambassadorial Scholar and perhaps share this message with friends and colleagues. Simply click on this link www.sheldoncomics.com.

Thought for the Week
The mark of an educated mind is to entertain a thought without accepting it.

THIS WEEK
Joanne Jordan
, the Emergency Preparedness Education Coordinator for the Bellevue Fire Department, will tell us how to prepare for everything from earthquakes to terrorist attacks. Guests are always welcome at the BBRC, for a delicious buffet breakfast at 7:00 a.m., meeting at 7:30, and program at 8:00. Glendale Country Club is the place … and Rotary is the action!

ADMIN CORNER
Average age of your favorite Rotary club is 52. Can’t compare that with anything, since we didn’t have the data to compile it until recently. Our youngest member is 22 and our oldest is 81. We’ll keep an eye on this information and, as time marches on, we’ll share how our average age may change. There are no conclusions to this report … you may draw your own.
