Impact of Endangered Species Act Spelled Out
Hilary Culverwell, Outreach Coordinator for the King County Department of Natural Resources/Parks, laid out the early first steps for salmon recovered in the Lake Washington basin. Culverwell, a Mercer Island High School graduate, earned a degree at Occidental College in California and a Masters degree at Indiana University.
“This subject has been going on for sometime. A student recently said at a presentation I was making, ‘I’m so bored by it all.’ It will still go on for a long time, because there are so many facets about salmon recovery.” MORE
Leavenworth’s a Big Deal Master travel and event chief Bob Moloney rose to urge – no, check that – to brow beat members to call without fail to secure their lodging for the planned “Invasion of Leavenworth” on May 17, 2002. MORE
Rotary Homeless Youth Projects
Susan Harrison has jumped in with both feet on a couple of projects to benefit the Rotary Homeless Youth Foundation. “I’d like to make you aware that I'm raising funds for a teen emergency shelter to purchase two water heaters and two furnaces. A letter has gone to each of the other District 5030 Rotary Clubs asking for assistance. If any of you have extra cash or ideas for raising funds, I would appreciate hearing from you. As of last week, RHYF had raised $1,000 toward a project that is estimated to cost about $9,000. The BBRC has been asked to contribute $250 through the Community Service Committee.”
Susan is also on the hunt for two computers for a homeless youth charity on Capitol Hill in Seattle called Peace for the Streets. “The president of South Seattle Breakfast Rotary has offered up one computer and Computers for the World is searching for another. If you have a computer that needs a new home, please contact me,” said Susan.

ADMIN CORNER Updates have been made to the New Member Application, available as a PDF file on our website. In order to fulfill requirements of Clubmate, our Rotary database software, we have extended information on birthdates for you, your spouse, and children. Having the birthdates allows Clubmate to calculate information such as determining the cumulative age of the clubmembers. This will help the Board of Directors understand how the membership may be changing. In no way will any of this personal data be shared. Just a few names remain from the existing membership roster lacking a complete birthday. We’ll touch base with you!
