Ballard, Burnett, Holert
Chris Ballard (L) and Bob Holert greet Margie Burnett.

President Goldfarb opened the meeting by introducing Bob Holert for the Invocation and pledge to the flag. Chris Ballard introduced three visiting Rotarians and helped welcome a number of guests of Rotarians.

Sergeant At Arms Jay Powers inducted Bill Schultheis into the R*O*A*R (Rat on a Rotarian) Fraternity when it was revealed that Bill got some fine press in a local publication outlining his well-read and -accepted column in the Eastside Journal each week. Cost him $5.00. Very well-read! Congrats, Bill, you’ve made the grade!

Rourke O’Brien was fined $2.00 for an article featuring our morning’s speaker. Robbie Bach’s article extolled the virtues of X-Box, which Robbie knows something about. Jay couldn’t fine Robbie since he’s a non-member, so Rourke was next in line.

Andrew Face gave a pitch on the Bellevue School Levy election scheduled for Tuesday, February 5. Andrew distributed yard signs to members willing to display them and asked members living in the school district to sign an endorsement for use in conjunction with publicity on the levies. By all means, be a good citizen and plan to cast your ballot on February 5.

Chuck Barnes reviewed the pledges made by nearly 60 members several meetings ago. The pledging yielded $13,700 to the Rotary Foundation. Chuck appealed to the balance of the membership to pledge to the Rotary Foundation. “Every single penny goes to support projects around the world. Each year, the principal is invested for three years and earns enough money to pay for administrative costs. This insures that all the money raised is actually used for projects.” The Rotary year begins July 1and ends June 30. Every member is encouraged to participate. New members are urged to become Paul Harris Sustaining Members, where a contribution of $150 annually will begin a quest for a Paul Harris Fellowship, given to each member who contributes more than $1,000.

Barnes announced that a second Paul Harris Fellow was earned by none other than our current president, Steve Goldfarb. A second Paul Harris earns a sapphire.
