Sammamish ReLeaf

Freeman, Rule
Alex Rule (R) and Polly Freeman

Polly Freeman of the King County Department of Natural Resources was introduced by Preserve Planet Earth Chairman Alex Rule the day before the Sammamish ReLeaf project along the Sammamish River between Redmond and Woodinville. This is the sixth annual planting project, with 3,500 trees ready to plant. Polly accepted a $3,000 check from the BBRC in support of the project. Polly noted that “once planted, they need to be maintained. Perhaps the BBRC can adopt some trees for care during the other months of the year. It’s something concrete you can do.”

A total of 80 volunteers, mostly high school kids, showed up Saturday to plant the trees and shrubs along the Sammamish River. Alex Rule said, “It went very well. The weather was beautiful and we planted about a quarter of the stretch of the Burke-Gilman Trail, just south of 60-Acres Park. All in all, we participated in the planting of about a thousand trees.”

Rotarians in attendance included Rule, Margie Burnett, Doug Cameron, Jim Zidar, Tim Moriarty, Sharon Edberg, Ron Healey, Jim Kindsvater, Steve Peters, Dick Clarke, and Rourke O’Brien. Tim, Steve and Rourke also brought their children.
