 Friday Potpourri

Esteb, Isely-Fletcher
Friday’s greeters, Mark Esteb & Nancy Isely-Fletcher

President Goldfarb returned to his post after a successful recuperative period, following “minor” surgery. No pictures please.

Nancy Isely-Fletcher gave the invocation. Mark Esteb introduced two visiting Rotarians and several guests.

Frank Young explained his experience on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” last week. He pays off his promise of buying 500 raffle tickets, which equals $1,000. To the cries of pain and derision from the other members of the Club, Frank informs everyone he is buying his tickets from Kelly Dykstra, Dick Brown, and Carlene Buty. “I promised I’d buy from them,” said Frank plaintively. Now how do you like local politics, Frank?

Goldfarb, Young
Frank Young (R) makes good on his raffle ticket purchase to Steve Goldfarb.

Jenny Andrews reports that Little Bits Therapeutic Riding Center has sent an invitation to all members of the BBRC to attend a 25th Anniversary Celebration on September 15th, from 4:00– 7:00 p.m. There will be a demonstration, dedication, and dining. Please RSVP to Kelli Imlay at 425-882-1554.

Kim Shrader announced that this coming Friday would be Corporate Sponsor Recognition Day. It’s an opportunity for the Club to recognize the support that various organizations have given the BBRC in its fundraising efforts.

Earl Falk laid out a big project for this coming Saturday at Pier 91. Rotary First Harvest needs all the help it can get. One hundred thousand pounds of spuds have been collected by RFH, and they need to be sorted and bagged. Bring your family members – we can use everyone!

Rourke O'Brien
Rourke O’Brien

Rourke O’Brien subbed for Jay Powers and called Steve Lingenbrink up to tell about an evening at Sadru Kabani’s home, which was won by auction nearly a year ago. All of those who’d paid to win the auction item attended, except for the Goldfarbs. Steve G. said he’d been in Russia and jet lag was terrific, etc., etc. Another SteveWaltar – served a summons containing the menu from last Thursday night’s meal. For all the trouble, a fine of $200.

Brazen, Mahoney
Joseph Brazen L) and Wally Mahoney getting ready to pay the piper – a little.

Joseph Brazen and Wally Mahoney were called forward to end the tale of the big real estate deal. “Edifice Complex” is what Wally called it. The deal was if and when Wally’s house sold, Joseph, his realtor, and Wally would each pay $50 a piece. The Rotary Wheel was called into action and Wally rolled a zero! Joseph spun the wheel and got away for $20.

Raffle Update
It’s early, but Howard Johnson is putting the pressure on. The Deasy team #14 vaulted into first place with the team’s turn-in Friday. “Eight teams haven’t turned in anything yet,” complained Hojo. He thinks there’s some sandbagging going on. Stewart Martin, our displaced former member in Oregon, sent in a check for $160. Howard cautioned members that it’s tricky to designate funds from raffles because of existing state law. Just don’t put the BBRC Foundation on the raffle ticket. Read the information contained in your packet. The story tells all.
