Darlene Kiehl

Darlene Kiehl – a native of Northern California – spent her early work years slaving away for law firms. She worked her way up to Office Manager for a firm in San Francisco and finally decided, “I had enough working for lawyers,” to which Don Deasy replied “You must be a slow learner.” [Laughter]

“While looking for my next opportunity, I overheard a conversation in a coffee shop about real estate and proceeded to go out and get my license. In order to keep up the cash flow during this time, I got a paper route for the San Francisco Times to tide me over.”

Darlene first worked for Coldwell-Banker and then became an independent realtor. A long-time personal friend since 1970 was looking for investments, so Darlene went from residential to commercial real estate to accommodate the wants of the investor and became the listing agent for an older shopping center. Turns out the investor represented Charles Schultz of Peanuts cartoon fame. The buyers met price and she had to wait for four months for the commission for closing. She got the property management contract for the center, which, upon remodeling, has become one of the finest in the State.

Darlene moved north to Seattle in commercial real estate and quickly looked to join a Rotary Club. She had been an active 5-year member of the LaMarinda, CA, Club. Now, Darlene is just about all the way home toward her Blue Badge. Thanks, Darlene!
