President Steve Goldfarb called the meeting to order. Carol Hoeft gave the invocation and Andrew Face greeted visiting Rotarians and guests.

Madeline Gauthier introduced Heidi Shepherd, Past President of the Lake Forest Park Club and President of the Rotary Homeless Youth Foundation, an organization seeking to eliminate youth homelessness. Ninety percent of homeless youth are 12 to 17 years of age, half are under 14 years of age, and only three percent are homeless by choice. Most homeless youths are white, and 56 percent are from two-parent homes. Less than ten percent are from welfare homes and only eleven percent come from homes devastated by unemployment.

Heidi highlighted some of the Homeless Youth Foundation activities, one being a partnership with the University YMCA to provide Saturday evening dinners and toiletries; another being life skills training; and a third being an educational program supported by the University Rotary Club and the Emerald City Rotary Club in the University District. Heidi also welcomed BBRC member Susan Harrison to the Homeless Youth Foundation Board.

Madeline presented a BBRC check to Heidi to further the cause of this worthwhile organization.

Carlene Buty completed her newcomer duties and was rewarded with an exchange of her nasty red badge for a beautiful blue badge.
