 Election Up In The Air

Yes, dear reader, there’s another election going on in this country. Perhaps you Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Clubbers forgot about your own election being held in conjunction with the Raffle Election 2000 Exercise. As you may remember, Margie Burnett, the Secretary of State, certified the votes as her canvassing board made the count public. At her press conference, Ms. Burnett – the center of controversy for three weeks – said “Boy, what a close race! The new totals put the final vote count at 103,083.

With the adjustment of the vote tally, Dick Brown now leads with a slim 83-vote margin over his opponent, Jim Zidar. Reveille contacted Raffle Chairman Steve Lingenbrink, and he told us, “We had hoped to have the manual recount done by now, but alas, last minute wrangling by the State of Confidence has everything tied up in court. Unlikely to know anything until at least December 1st. Bummer!”

The final tally shows the Tories in the lead with 38,802 (37.64%), the Whigs with 38,719 (37.56%), and the Darkside Party at 25,562 (24.80%).

Nader
You should ALL have voted for me!

Again, from Raffle Chairman Lingenbrink, “I have it on good authority that the hand counting continues. Both the State of Confidence and the State of Affairs are still out. The State of Confidence has 8 electoral votes, where the State of Affairs has 7. Unofficially, there are an additional "150 votes" that may be coming in for the Tory Party as well.”

Lingenbrink went on: “It is also my understanding that the Whigs are mounting a legal challenge to the entire electoral system, as it was not "made clear to them," and they feel the popular vote only should count. I assume this whole mess will end up in the "Supreme Rotary Court" before we hear anything final on this election. Much like the U.S. Presidential Race, had it not been for Darth Nader, we would have a clear winner now.”
