Chris Monger offered the invocation and led the pledge to the flag. Jim Owens welcomed five visiting Rotarians and several guests of Rotarians, including Carol Hoeft, guest of Mark Hough. Owens’ question for our guests was “How many Rose Bowls did Don James win during his tenure as Husky coach?” (Answer buried in the news story to follow.)

Susan Harrison, newly installed member a week ago, was given her Rotary information manual and her pin, which was inadvertently omitted during the excitement of her induction ceremony.

Ugly Tie Guy Dick Brown announced the Ugly Tie Contest will be Friday, October 27. This is a non-gender exercise – everyone participates. He also reminded his Tory party members of the offer of a limo ride to the November 18 Anniversary Party to the highest scoring rookie and the veteran member making the best increase over last year.

Jim Young reminded everyone to sign up for the Preserve Planet Earth tree and shrub planting exercise at Marymoor park. It’s Saturday, October 28, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Don Chandler handed out a brochure on the District Youth Exchange program. He asked members to look it over and assess how they can participate.

Pier 91 beckons once again for the monthly Rotary First Harvest Work Party this Saturday, October 14, from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Earl Falk has all the details.

Susan Harrison announced that the Puget Sound Blood Bank is running low on stock of blood. If you can possibly give, contact the Blood Bank in Bellevue.
