 A Visit Down Under

Steve Waltar
Back from Down Under, Steve Waltar displays some of his treasures.

Steve and Suzy Waltar survived the Olympics! That’s the news spread around the BBRC last Friday when Steve returned to give the Club a capsule report on their visit to Australia. They opened their trek with a few days on the Great Barrier Reef. Steve was captivated by their scuba-diving on the reef … “It was incredibly beautiful.”

Next, they connected with their Rotary hosts in Sydney, saw the opening ceremonies with 110,000 people present, and got to know this marvelous Australian city. “There are 62 bays scattered throughout the harbor … what a setting for a city!” They went to Adelaide, where they met Brian Evison’s brother, Paul. Steve described attending a Rotary meeting where wine was the beverage of choice, where the members robustly sang a song, toasted the Queen, and then sang the Australian National Anthem. Steve had dozens of photos and other mementos of their visit on display. As the official representatives to the Olympics from the BBRC, we conclude that Steve and Suzy were the perfect ambassadors.
