Friday Potpourri

President Goldfarb hit the bell and the meeting was on! He introduced Steve Waltar, who gave the invocation and led the pledge to the flag, and Bill Knoppi, who greeted five visiting Rotarians, including Mamoru Tanaka from Japan. Among the guests of Rotarians was Daniel Feussner’s father, visiting from Germany.

On the heels of Ciscoe Morris’ program last week, someone hit on the idea of a new fundraiser: a slug hunt. Seems our Japanese friends catch slugs and grind them up into a powder which is used to accent certain foods. President Goldfarb, explaining Mamoru Tanaka’s reaction when he described the size of our slugs, reported our visitor wanted to acquire some of these slimy beasts. Hence, the slug hunt.

Chuck Barnes pins Donn Roberts – does not draw blood.

Tossing the Red Badge aside, Daniel Feussner, accepted his Blue Badge - a symbol of permanence in Rotary. Congratulations, Daniel! You do good work!

Chuck Barnes spoke on behalf of the Rotary Foundation and, specifically, the making of Paul Harris Fellows. He urged all members to “start wearing their Paul Harris pins. It’s a great badge of honor. Why not wear the pin at least to every Rotary meeting?”

Donn Roberts was recognized for his second Paul Harris Fellow, which makes him eligible for the sapphire pin. His efforts reflect a gift of $2,000 to the Rotary Foundation. Congratulations, Donn!
