Wallys Book Review
I hope you'll
each go out and buy two copies of this book one for yourself and one for a friend even though one reviewer said "... this will appeal to the 577 people
who know what the Patriot League is."
"The Last Amateurs
" isn't John Feinstein's best book (both "A Good Walk Spoiled" and "A Season on the Brink" are better); but it is eminently
readable and it's a dose of reality for anyone who celebrates March Madness and knows which colleges are in the Patriot League (Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette,
Lehigh, Bucknell, Army and Navy).
Out here, in the land of the Pac-10,
this is the end of the regular season as the Apple Cup (Udub and Wazzu) and the Civil War (Ducks and Beavers) took place and we celebrate big-time college
football. But somewhere back east, another basketball season has started in what's arguably the most obscure Division I College Conference it may not be big
-time, but there's just as much blood, toil, tears, and sweat involved.
This book is the story of last year's
basketball season in the Patriot League and it's a tribute to the ballplayers (student-athletes), coaches, and colleges involved. Read the book, and celebrate the
people WM
