 Rotary Love

Rotary lovebirds Alex Rule and Kim Edberg

This is a love story. Not often on these pages do we have the opportunity to capture the essence of true love, but our time has come. Alex Rule joined the BBRC in June of 1995 and became the Club’s most eligible bachelor. Alex was committed to environmental activities, hence his involvement with the Preserve Planet Earth Committee and other similar projects.

Seems that on one occasion, the PPE Committee was digging holes along the banks of the Sammamish Slough, which became new homes for various shrubs and trees. On this occasion, Alex, who was in charge of the project, met Kim Edberg, a pretty, lively blond who belonged to Sharon and Gordie Edberg. That’s when the two first met, and the seeds of love (and trees) were planted.

Next, the BBRC Ethics Committee sponsored an ethics symposium, and both Alex and Kim enrolled. As Kim tells it, “Alex sat down next to me and we took in all the interesting things on the agenda. Part of the exercise was to determine our own core values. As we worked through the questionnaire, Alex kept glancing [sneaking looks] at my paper,” and surprisingly, when the symposium was over, they found they each had the same core values: love and family!

Kim and Alex became an item and were engaged last August. They will be married on Bastille Day, July 14, 2001. What a great couple! Congratulations!
