Vol. 17, No. 26, December 27, 2004

THIS WEEK

Another holiday this week means no regular meeting of the BBRC. Friday is New Year’s Eve Day and becomes a holiday for Rotary. We’ll begin anew next week on January 7th with an off-site meeting at Sammamish High School. This will be the first time for our club to view the remodeling project underway for the past year at SHS. Principal Spencer Welch will tell us about the changes. Remember, that Glendale is closed from January 1 until January 13. We return to Glendale on Friday, January 14.

Board of Directors Will Meet

The BBRC Board of Directors will meet at the offices of Hellam Veron CPAs, at 1750 112th Avenue NE, Suite #E200. This is the site of the former Benson-McLaughlin CPA office (known as Hidden Valley Office Park) and is the southern-most office of that large complex. Meeting begins at 7:00 am, Tuesday, January 11, hosted by Margie Burnett.

Another Online Sign-up!

SamRSVPA1Thirty-three of your fellow Rotarians have followed instructions and signed up for our next meeting at Sammamish High School. The kitchen crew at Sammamish will need a head count in order to serve us breakfast Friday morning, January 7, 2005. That’s the date we return to school for a “brush-up” with Principal Spencer Welch. Not only will we have breakfast, but we’ll get an opportunity to see the fruits of all the labor of the SHS remodeling project.

Click on the apple to the right and select either YES (yes, I will attend) or NO (I won’t attend) and click the “Submit” button. Click only once. And the, don’t forget to attend the 1/7/05 meeting at Sammamish High! It’ll be a fine meeting!

Admin Corner

Not only does the tax year come to a close Friday, but Rotary’s Second Quarter also closes the same day. This is significant for two reasons:

1) the club depends on the membership to keep their accounts current, for these are the funds that pay for on-going operations. If your account is not current, please remit by check to BBRC, PO Box 3003, Bellevue, WA 98009-3003. A final visit to the PO Box will be made Friday morning, December 31 to pick up any last-minute deposits.

2) December 31 is also the final day of Rotary International’s Semi-Annual Reporting. Twice each year, all of the clubs in Rotary submit reports of membership numbers. These numbers trigger the amount of money the BBRC sends to RI for Semi-Annual Dues. With our membership at 114, that figure will be used to calculate how much the BBRC owes RI. Included in the billing are the semi-annual dues @ $17.50 per member and a semi-annual subscription to the Rotarian magazine @ $6.00 per member. The invoice ranges between $2800 to $3200, with the higher amount billed on July 1 to include a levy for the Council of Legislation ($1.00 per year/member) and an annual liability insurance assessment for US clubs only ($3.70 per year/member).

In addition, clubs are assessed a levy each July at the rate of $32.50 per member to fund operations of the District.

Care and Concern

Member Vicky Hunsicker Sanko is recovering from surgery at home.

Ted Ederer’s wife Jeanne has undergone surgery and treatment for cancer. Her doctors give a favorable prognosis that all is going well.

Member Carol Hoeft reports her treatments for cancer are going “amazingly well.” She says she is having no ill effects from the chemotherapy. She continues to work full-time and is keeping her Rotary attendance up.

Yassir, That's Jimmy the K

JimKLast week, the BBRC's own Jim Kindsvater, aka Jimmy the K, played a shepard in performances at his church. Jim, who sings bass in the choir, made the mistake of commenting, "You oughta see me in my Yassir Arafat hat and tunic.  Skirts really are kinda breezy aren't they? I can see why you girls switched to pants." Putting his money where is mouth is, Jimmy the K produced this photo for Reveille publication.

WEBGRUNT SAYS: "I GUESS MEMPHIS AIN'T FAR ENOUGH SOUTH"

Even Memphis, TN, had it's share of snow and ice last week. Cold enough that one good push can send a kid on a snow disk all the way across the backyard.
