Sea Scouts
Bill Rahr will educate us on the Sea Scout program on the Eastside. He will then turn the program over to one of his accomplished Sea Scouts, Sebastian Foss, to discuss the value he has gained from this program.
Sabastian is a Senior at Mercer Island H.S., he has been a Sea Scout on Bill’s vessel the Argo for the past five and a half years. He is a qualified Seaman, Leader, SEAL, and concerned Leader of his crew and ship. He plans on finishing his college education and continuing into the Coast Guard Officers ranks. He is one of the first to take advantage of our newly established connection with the USCG AUXiliary (Flotilla @@) as a Certified member.
About the Speaker
Bill and his parents moved to Bellevue and Phantom Lake in 1957. He considers himself the Last of the Bellevue “small farm" boys. While attending Tillicum Junior High, he paddled a canoe across the lake since it was faster than walking. His high school job was at the John Danz Theatre.
Being true to his roots, Bill attended Washington State University (farm boy becomes a Coug!). Bill married a Cop (Deputy, Sheriff) and they raised two boys on Phantom Lake. Bill taught at Sammamish High School for 30+ years and at Renton High School before he retired from teaching.
He has been a Sea Scout on the Argo since age 14. And he has lots of Scouting experience - Cub Master, Asst. Scoutmaster, Sea Scouts- Mate, Skipper, Scouting Merit Award, Venturing Excellence, Sea Badge, Silver Beaver,
