Ivar's How did we get from the old Alaskan Way Viaduct to the new waterfront? A brief history of the viaduct, process to select an alternative, and what happens between now and the opening of the Aquarium’s Ocean Pavilion in the summer of 2024, as well as the Waterfront Park, opening a year from now. park a year from now!

About the Speaker

In his day job, Bob helps manage Ivar’s, but he has been active in all matters waterfront for almost 40 years. He helped the Port of Seattle develop its first strategy plan for the Marine Division in the 1980’s, was on the Community Advisory Panel for Colman Dock in 2006, was one of the 24 stakeholders appointed by the governor, county executive and mayor to select a replacement for the Viaduct, was a part of the group that developed the Tunnel + Transit solution, and sat on the design committees for the seawall and waterfront park. Bob has volunteered at the Aquarium since 2006, and presently sits on the Central Waterfront Oversight Committee which manages the park. He also walks the project 5-6 days a week.
