Rotating the Wheels to 2008-09 Capo dei capi Salvatori began his reign with an Italian Dinner for Breakfast and went out with an Italian Dinner at dinner time. We learned the appropriate times for meals during his tenure as President along with many, many other things. Don Salvatori focused on what makes the BBRC "unique, special and memorable. The answer: It is our committed members. Each one of you wants to make a difference in the world, locally, nationally or internationally and you do it by practicing Service Above Self. You pitch in and get the job done. You volunteer your precious time to do something for someone else." Dinner was held at Maggiano’s Little Italy. Properly Italian, la cena consisted of courses. First course consisted of stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella marinara, Caesar salad and Italian antipasti salad. Second course brought forth zitti with pomodoro sauce, four cheese ravioli, salmon lemon and herbs, and chicken marsala. final course produced a fresh fruit plate and profiteroles. There was food aplenty — Un posto dove si mangia bene! Margie Burnett did the honors as Mistress of Ceremonies, recognizing special guests former President Sharon Edberg and her husband, Gordie. Bob Bowen delivered the Invocation, invoking RI President Dong Kurn Lee’s theme, “Make Dreams Come True.” He thanked the Board and President for a year of service above self and looked forward to making dreams come true this coming year. Margie gave special thanks to Roger Allington for putting on the successful dinner and presented a shorter version of the very successful Fathers’ Day slideshow. Then appeared Phil’s old friends, Dino DeWater and Frank Andrew Face. Accompanied by Chippy Erickson, Jr., on the piano, they sang for Phil their own BBRC versions of "That’s Amore" and "It Was a Very Good Year," and for Jenny, the BBRC version of "The Lady Is a Tramp." But that was not all the music for the evening. Special Secret Musician Jim Owens provided his unique harmonica version of JS Bach’s "Jesu Joy of Mans’ Desiring." Following custom, President Phil thanked the outgoing board of directors, Steve Vincent, Steve Szirmai, Hal Teel, David Bolson, John Martinka, Tom Harrelson SGA, Curtis Cummings, Fred Barkman, Chris Ballard, Sayoko Kuwahara, Jim Zidar and Jenny Andrews. He recounted the special highlights of the year and especially thanked his wife Connie. New President Jenny confessed to being Scandinavian, not Italian, and promised lutefisk instead of pasta, and then she introduced the incoming board: Margie Burnett, Phil Salvatori, Steve Vincent, Robin Callan, Sayoko Kuwahara, Hal Teel, Bob Bowen, Juan Hernandez, Elena Howell, John DeWater, David Bolson and Fred Barkman. Connie Salvatori received a bouquet of flowers, and Tom Andrews receive a bottle of something. There was not only food but wine aplenty. As the Romans said, Bibamus Moriendum Est — Let us drink! Death is inevitable! The BBRC Annual Golf Tournament is set for July 28 at Eagle's Talon golf course, Willows Run.
