Jan Nestler gave a stirring Invocation and led the Pledge. Colly Radford introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Michael Hendrickson (Bellevue Noon) was the only visiting Rotarians.

Student of The Month: Ricardo Guimaraes, Eastside Academy

Larry May introduced Ricardo Guimaraes as our Student of the Month. Mr. Guimaraes is presently a student at Eastside Academy and the school’s Student of the Year.

Eastside Academy is a non-profit alternative high school that serves students who have not found success in the typical school setting. Mr. Guimaraes applied himself to his studies and will graduate on time.

For a job well done President Phil presented a beautiful walk-a-thon jersey to the young man.

BBRC Annual Golf Tournament

Ted Ederer explained that the time is coming for the great BBRC Golf Tournament. Please mark July 28th on your calendar. The tournament will take place at Eagle's Talon golf course, Willows Run.

Scholarship Presentations

Tom Smith shared with the club that the scholarship program is an important aspect of our community services. The program aligns well with the BBRC’s mission and vision. To this end the scholarship recipients were selected based on the BBRC’s values.

Tom introduced the recipients: Jose Gomez, Chhiv Ly Ngor and Heidi Anderson. Jose Gomez was joined by his mother Lupe Garcia. Chhiv Ly Ngor was joined by her father Bouson Ngor. Unfortunately Heidi Andershon was on a volunteer camp counselor trip with Odle Middle School’s 6th grade and was not in attendance.

Also presemt for the scholarship awards were Counselors Maya Vergien, Erica Mallin and Carole Chomik.

The students thanked the BBRC for our support.

RI Foundation

Cary Kopczynski reported that the BBRC is at 90% member participation. At present the average contribution is $300 per participating member. Cary also recognized the generous contributions made by club members: Fred Barkman, Colly Radford, Alex Rule, Ruben Ladlad, John Martinka, Paul Chapman, and Wayne McCaulley.

Online RSVP for Rotating the Wheels, June 27

Bellevue Breakfast Rotary ClubDetails and online RSVP are available for the Annual Rotating the Wheels dinner, set for Friday, June 27, at Maggiano's Little Italy, in Bellevue. The theme for this event is "Vacation in Italy," so dress is casual!

A social hour will begin at 6:00 pm, with dinner at 7:00, and music provided by the BBRC Rock Band. There will also be a special guest musician!

Cost per person is $50.00 and will include a Maggiano's Italian Dinner served family style at each table. There will be sufficient variety for every taste!

Deadline for sign-up is June 19!

New Member Proposed: Pam Fehrman

Pam Fehrman works for the City of Bellevue. Her area of specialty is parks and community services. She is the project manager and has been helping the BBRC with our spray park project. (So, she is already like one of us.) She resides in Bellevue and loves to travel. Pam's proposed classification is “Parks & Recreation.”

Friday's Program
"The Journey from Australia to KOMO Seattle Traffic Reporter," Jenni Hogan, KOMO TV Traffic

Jenni Hogan is the traffic anchor for the KOMO morning news from 5:00 to 7:00 AM. She also reports on transportation issues during other newscasts.

You may notice a subtle accent when you wake up to Jenni in the mornings. She was born in Australia, and moved to the United States after being spotted by a University of Washington crew coach while competing in the Windermere cup for the Australian National team.

Jenni graduated from UW with two National Championship rings as Captain of the women's crew team, and she is excited to be back in Seattle cheering for her beloved Huskies.

Jenni has lived in the Pacific Northwest for the last 10 years. Most recently she was in Portland working as the traffic reporter for KOIN-TV. She also spent a couple of years in Cougar territory at KLEW-TV in Lewiston, Idaho, where she ran the sports department as the station's first female sports director.
