BBRC Sets Giving Record
Chuck Barnes: Feet, Forms & Foundation |
Chuck Barnes, Chairman of the Rotary Foundation Committee, reported that Rotary’s double-barreled giving program is winding down, as the Yes and Yes campaign heads for successful closure. Rotary International had set a goal of $80 million to be raised from Rotarians around the world. This figure is to be matched with funds from the Gates Foundation and the World Bank. Together, the dollars raised are expected to support the final push of polio eradication in several hot spots in the world, keeping toward the goal of eradication of the disease by 2005 – Rotary’s 100th anniversary.
The Polio Eradication campaign for District 5030 had a $450,000 goal, of which the Bellevue Breakfast Rotary Club pledged $36,000 – equally, $18,000 to the annual fund and polio eradication. Barnes reported $17,150 collected for the annual fund and $19,450 for polio eradication – a record $36,600! Last year, when the goal was only for the annual fund, the Club set a new record with $18,351 collected.
“This year’s drive was meant to include all members of the Club – 100% participation. We still have a baker’s dozen who haven’t contributed. In order for the contributions to be tabulated, we need to wrap up our collections by the middle of May.”
Barnes went on to hype the coming year’s campaign, one that will feature support for the Annual Fund only. “Beginning July 1, the BBRC will shoot for another $18,000 + effort in support of the wonderful things the Rotary Foundation does year to year, around the world.” With that in mind, Chuck asked all members to renew their quarterly pledges or to make their first-time pledges on forms provided at the Cashier’s desk.
“This almost completed campaign by the members of the BBRC was an absolutely fabulous job for the Rotary Foundation. It’s been my pleasure to guide this effort on behalf of what I know is the finest Rotary Club in the World!,” bubbled Barnes.
