Tom Purdy, a member of the BBRC since mid-August of 2002, gave his Classification Talk Friday. “I’m one of the members who loves country music,” said Tom. Proud of his Texas accent, his Texas upbringing, his growing up in Houston and attending Texas Christian University, Tom first prepared himself to be a minister. Prior to entering the seminary, however, he decided to explore the field of fundraising. He worked for the YMCA for 15 years and other fundraising ventures for the same length of time.
Tom loves bicycling, racking up seven tours of the Colorado Rockies. Since movign to Seattle in 1997, Tom has worked as a non-profit fundraising consultant and is Vice President with Netzel Associates. He has clients in Oregon and Washington, and the company has offices in other western cities, including Los Angeles and Phoenix.
Tom and his wife, Diane, “love it here.” He is into home remodeling and has been a hospice and Habitat for Humanity volunteer. He is a former Rotarian with the club in Roundrock Texas, and he is very interested in Rotary’s international work. “I’m glad to be here. It’s the greatest place in the world!”
A member of the audience asked Tom what a “waaf” was. Neither Tom, nor the rest of the audience knew the answer, until further inspection – that’s how a Texan says “wife!’
