Friday Potpourri
Kim Shrader welcomed members and guests to the regular Friday meeting. Rich Hammond gave the invocation and led the pledge to the flag. Valoree Dowell welcomed two visiting Rotarians, Cliff Tingley and Stan Foster, both from Seattle #4. A special guest was Past District Governor Ron Dunlap of Bellevue.
Brenda Ludwig stepped forward to replace her Red Badge for the Blue One, a sign she has completed the requirements of a new member. Congratulations, Brenda!
Rick McManus, Chairman of the “Eyeglasses Wrapped in a $5.00 Bill” project, extolled members to participate in this new District 5030 project. In addition to collecting used eyeglasses, the funds will be used to purchase a special piece of laser surgery equipment to be installed in an area in India. This place has a high incidence of blindness. This project will join District 5030 with another district in India, coupled with matching funds from the Rotary Foundation. Project coordinators — PDG Duane Ruud and Redmond Rotary President Mike Amos — are planning to turn over the proceeds at the District Conference the end of April. There will be two more Friday pleas for eyeglasses. If you don’t have any old eyeglasses at home, Rick has a boxful which he’ll gladly give you. Just wrap the glasses in a $5.00 bill and you’re home free! Rick collected over 20 pair of glasses on Friday.
