 Steve Walter with the invocation
|
THE VALENTINE INVOCATION By Steve Waltar
A modern translation of love:
Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always ‘me first,’ Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.
We, too, should love with this much faith and courage!
Amen!

Friday Potpourri
 Kim Shrader
 Mark Esteb

Friday’s program opened on a sad note, as President Kim Shrader led the club in a moment of silent meditation for the family of Daniel Feussner. Daniel died Friday, February 7, in Bellevue. A memorial service is planned later.
Steve Waltar offered the invocation, portions of which are reproduced at right. Mark Esteb greeted three visiting Rotarians, all of whom were grilled about their celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Assistant District Governor Howard Stirk was a visitor Friday. He knew he’d picked a bad day to see his fellow Assistant Governor John DeWater, who was busy filling heart-shaped, scarlet-colored gifts that morning.

Other guests included John Kuechle, Valentine of Jane, as well as Charlotte Roberts, Valentine of Steve.
Cary Kopczynski alerted members to a day-long ski trip to Crystal Mountain on Friday, February 28.
Absolutely the last call for the annual RYLA Conference. Chairman Alan Bohling said he could still accommodate junior or senior high students for the four-day event on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. The date is March 6-9, but you must act NOW!
John Martinka severely chastised his charges when he heard that Mary Bell was welcomed by a hearty round of applause the week before. “I want to be booed and hissed!” said the Prague Policeman. (We are sure he will get his wish!)
 Birthday Boy Dale Hemphill

John recognized members having birthdays in February. The crowd was treated to a Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers pas de deux, when Bill Schultheis spun Jan Nestler, around while the crowd warbled “Happy Birthday.” Such ad-libbers!
Martinka, who will be taking over the BBRC’s participation in the Rotary Homeless Youth Dinner project, with the departure of Susan Harrison, asked members to bring any kind of clothing during the next two meetings. The clothes will be given out at the March 1 feeding at the University YMCA. Particularly needed are used baby clothes.
