Opening the New Year, President Kim Shrader welcomed everyone with the traditional greeting to the finest Rotary Club in the World, noting that paper plates were the utensils of the day, as Glendale’s kitchen was undergoing some major remodeling. Kim pointed out that the Club opened specifically to serve Friday’s breakfast, although it generally closes each year for about ten days around New Year’s.
Scott Sadler was called upon to deliver the invocation. Jim Owens greeted a gentleman from Haifa, Israel, visiting his son; Jim Tillman, University District Rotarian; and John Jacob Gardiner, DGE.
Not wishing to rub it in, but Larry May #1 returned after a 9-month leave wearing his Oklahoma colors. Kim, the Head Cougar, congratulated Larry on the Sooner win over WSU in the Rose Bowl.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Clothing and luggage for Treehouse will be collected this Friday. Bring your used, but usable luggage and clothing for foster kids to this Friday’s meeting. This project is promoted by the Community Service Committee, Lynne Gauthier, Chairperson.
Saturday morning, January 11, Rotary First Harvest holds another work party from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Pier 91 in Seattle. The need is staggering to help feed families in Washington, and you can help by helping RFH on Saturday. Bring your family and friends. Earl Falk is your contact.
On a note of sadness …
Dick Brown of the BBRC’s Care and Concern Committee let the Club know of a tragedy that has struck Brian Evison’s family. An aunt and uncle were killed in an automobile accident in London. Our deep sympathy to Brian and his family during this sad time.
