The BBRC Major Gifts Committee culminated several weeks of intensive study and research in the announcement of the recipients of the Club’s support this year. Chairman Steve Roberts said 55 grant proposals were originally solicited in August, and 24 were returned by the deadline in late September. The Committee was divided into teams of three members each whose duty it was to read each of the 24 proposals. From this, six agencies were selected as semi-finalists. Each of these six were visited in person by a Committee Team.

“We settled on two agencies: The Eastside Academy, which will receive $15,000; and Easter Seals Camp Stand By Me, located in Gig Harbor, which serves disabled children from throughout the region. The funds will go for the refurbishment of the camp’s center house, a grant of $25,000.”

Roberts said his committee’s job was to “find and select major charities to receive our support. Our grants each year have had a significant impact to the receiving agency.” Roberts thanked his committee of Carlene Buty, Jeff Maxwell, Jim Owens, Steve Peters, Dean Pollock, Jeanne Thorsen, Dick Tschetter, Jim Young, Paul Martin, Doug Engberg, Mary Bell, and Lynne Gauthier.
