BBRC’s popular and long-running Students-of-the-Month program was up and running Friday as a new academic year begins. Back at his familiar position as Senior S-O-T-M Coordinator, Bob Holert introduced Becca Miller, a senior at Sammamish High School. Becca has a 3.98 GPA and is taking three AP classes, which qualify for credit into college. She has performed as captain of the Lacrosse team and President of the school’s Knowledge Bowl team and has particularly enjoyed her role in Community Service.
“I’ve got Senioritis now, but I’m still heavily involved in several projects.” Becca is earning her Girl Scout Gold Award (comparable to Eagle Scout for boys) and is working on an “original project” which is to “design and create a meditation garden at my synagogue. Planting begins next week.” Through Key club, Becca has provided leadership for Odle Outreach, a project to help junior high students get squared away prior to entering Sammamish High. Students at Odle Junior High are matched with Sammamish students who act as their counselors. Becca has no specific college plans.

Larry May introduced David Lasby, a senior at Bellevue Christian. “David is an outstanding athlete in baseball and has attained a high scholarship with his performance in high honor academics. He is also an outstanding citizen, compiling an honorable record of community service achievements.” David has served as a school Senator and completed a mission trip to Thailand. “Bellevue Christian is a neat school,” he said, “Students have a close relationship with their teachers and this produces a good influence. My Vietnam mission last summer was a highlight in my school career. I’m most proud of starting a lunch hour Bible study that has grown from a dozen students to now 54 of us. I’m taking Spanish and I think I’d like to use my baseball talents to preach the Gospel to students in Latin America.”
Both student honorees were accompanied by their parents, who received praise by President Shrader for their dedication in raising their children.
