Friday Potpourri
Having just arrived back from five days in Hawaii, President Shrader shrugged off his yawns and got us rolling once again.
Brenda Ludwig gave the invocation and led the pledge to the flag.
Dale Hemphill did the greeter duties, asking the visiting Rotarians what they wished their classifications were. The two visitors played along and provided some early morning entertainment. Dale then took the microphone on tour and let the Rotarians introduce his/her guests. It’s called “walking the microphone.”
Bill Spencer has returned from his 3-month sabbatical — a leave granted by the Board of Directors. Rick Klobucher should also be back on track after a similar episode.
Ernie Hayden presented President Shrader with the banner from the Rotary Club of Adelaide South, Australia. Norm Johnson gave a banner collected at a meeting of the College Rotary Club, Fairbanks, AK.

Fellowship Chairman Peter Powell gave a heads-up for Friday, November 15th, the annual BBRC Anniversary Dinner. No morning meeting that day. “Also because of a conflict at Glendale, the Club will meet off site on November 1st at the new Bellevue Library. Please mark these events in your calendar.”
BBRC Foundation Chairman Steve Roberts reported the Major Gifts Committee has in hand “24 requests for proposals” from agencies around the area. An intense series of meetings begins Monday, October 7, and will continue into early November. Interviews with finalist organizations will take place before the Committee announces its decision regarding distribution of $40,000 set aside for major gifts this fall.
President Shrader reminded members that the Board of Directors, at its September meeting, agreed to count bonafide committee meetings of a duration of an hour or more eligible as make-ups. “The Board will re-assess this directive at the end of March to see how it’s working. You may use the reporting device on the BBRC website to submit your make-up. Please remember, though, that a member’s main obligation is to attend regularly scheduled weekly club meetings.”
Kim also reviewed the major contents of the Club’s Five-Year Plan, which was accepted by the Board last month. The process called for ample communications to the membership of the Five-Year Plan, which was accomplished by publication in the Reveille and handing out copies at least twice. Upon review, Shrader asked for approval of the new plan from the membership. By voice vote, the plan was adopted without objection.
Polly Stansell – she doesn’t LOOK mean.

Polly Stansell filled in for traveling SAA John Martinka and promptly fined everyone not wearing their Rotary pin $3 for the indiscretion. Peter Stadelman got some good advertising in an article published recently. Seems that Sayoko Powell was quoted in the article, too. Peter + Sayoko = $5.00 (How come Sayoko is always connecting with somebody named Peter?)
Lastly, Polly adroitly wound a story of her support for public radio into a few more bucks for the Serheant’s Fund. Something to do with Cary Kopczynski’s sponsorship of a PBS program this past week. Those who didn’t see the show put money on table.
