 Treehouse Update

Madeline Gauthier brought members up to date on the Treehouse Project. You’ll remember this is an agency that supports the needs of foster children with items such as luggage and clothing. They also seek help for young people needing special support. Such is the story of Alex, an 18-year-old Salvadoran who has received funds from the BBRC to support his quest for an education. The young man has been in the U.S. since he was very young and is now ready to begin working.

The Immigration Service, however, had other ideas and began preliminary deportation proceedings. Fortunately, with the help of Davis Wright Tremaine law firm, Alex has successfully achieved his green card. As he relates it, “I was down to my last Rotary dollar. I’d been giving myself haircuts to save money, but I decided if I was to go and present myself for employment, I’d have to have a professional cut. When I went to the hair salon, I explained that I didn’t have much money and I was looking for a job. They offered me a job on the spot and I got my hair done professionally!

Thanks to Madeline for keeping the BBRC in touch with a fine agency that puts kids first – Treehouse.
