SUMMARY:“Preserving Planet Earth: It Takes A Village"
DESCRIPTION:Cary Kopczynski / Alex Rule – Founding Principal / Western Region Leader\, Health Care Practice\nCKC Structural Engineers / Gallagher\nCreating a sustainable future for planet Earth is challenging.  A growing global population\, increasing demands on finite resources\, and the inability of political entities to cooperate combine to paint a disturbing picture. The good news is that the combined efforts of committed individuals and sustainability focused organizations such as Rotary can create major impact. Cary and Alex will discuss this\, illustrated with examples from their personal experience.    \nAbout the Speaker\nCary is a longtime Eastside resident and 2000 – 2001 Past President of the BBRC.  He and his wife Jan are the proud parents of two successful sons…Jeffrey and Philip\, both attorneys. Cary is an avid adventurer\, having traveled to over 45 countries and explored many parts of our planet.  He has seen firsthand the challenges we face in preserving our world for future generations. Professionally\, Cary is the Founding Principal of an engineering firm based in Bellevue with an office in Chicago.  Most recently\, he is the immediate Past President of the American Concrete Institute\, the largest concrete industry organization in the world\, with over 30\,000 members in more than 100 countries.  ACI recently embarked on a major sustainability initiative to eliminate the concrete industry’s global carbon footprint\, which is currently almost ten percent of total carbon emissions worldwide.   \nAlex Rule is a Maine native\, moved to Seattle in the early 90’s to take advantage of all the outdoor activities the Northwest has to offer\, was a BBRC member from 1996-2016\, where his passion for nature was channeled toward the Preserve Planet Earth Committee. He met his wife\, Kim Edberg\, through Sharon Edberg\, who was President of BBRC at the time\, at a Rotary sponsored Preserve Planet Earth tree planting project.  Alex and Cary became good friends through their shared passion for nature and remain committed to continuing the tradition of seeking adventure together each year.\nAlex and Kim have two boys\, Liam (18) and Declan (16) and professionally\, Alex run Gallagher’s healthcare practice in the Western Region.\nAnd BBRC members who were around in 1996 know that the “hook” might be necessary whenever Alex has the mic in his hand!

Learn more at https://www.thegoodfootarts.org/ \nAbout the Speaker\nLouie Praseuth is a community and youth leader and has been serving in the field of community development\, youth and arts ministry for 20 years. Social\, spiritual\, artistic and personal identity development are some of his passions. He has experience in quantifying positive youth outcomes as a former staff with School’s Out Washington and has strong formal education and after school time partnerships. Prior to professional development\, Louie was a full-time international performer\, choreographer and has competed in high level Breaking competitions worldwide and has worked with artists such as Salt N Pepa\, Talib Kweli\, and has featured in commercials like Subaru\, T-Mobile and Sony. He choreographed a remix video for David Bowie’s\, Let’s Dance which made #1 on the dance charts upon release. Louie co-founded the youth\, community and arts organization\, The Good Foot Arts Collective in 2005\, with his wife May Praseuth\, that exists to provide safe space for youth to develop artistic expression for future leadership. He currently continues this work with a specific focus on addressing youth violence within local school and community settings.

His book is brimming with the tension\, anguish\, exhaustion\, relief\, gratitude\, and compassion that are all part of a typical day at work in the ER. Travel with Dr. Davis through the cases he remembers most from his 35-year career as an emergency medicine doctor. \nAbout the Speaker\nOver the course of a 35-year career as an Emergency Department Physician\, Dr Christopher Davis has cared for over 100\,000 patients. He has taught emergency medicine in the Washington DC area\, the Pacific Northwest\, and as guest faculty member in Laos\, Bhutan\, Cambodia\, and Uganda. He is a Past President of Ballard Rotary and is presently teaching Adult and Pediatric Life Support Certification classes to Seattle area health care workers.
