SUMMARY:Gender Equality: Catalyzing Transformative Change and Empowering Hope-Filled Futures for Girls
DESCRIPTION:Margo Day – CEO and Co-Founder\nMekuno Project www.mekunoproject.org \nMargo Day had worked for over 30 years in the technology industry\, but when she hit her 50th birthday\, she felt as though she needed to do more–she needed to make an impact. The question was how. It wasn’t until she went on a trip to Kenya and met 34 young girls at a rescue center in West Pokot that she realized her calling. She has spent over a decade since working with organizations in Kenya to eliminate female genital mutilation and child marriage\, leaving the technology industry for a higher calling. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right\, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful\, prosperous\, and sustainable world. However\, this goal will remain unreachable if forms of gender-based violence\, such as female genital mutilation and child marriage persist\, and girls in Kenya and around the world are prevented from creating hope-filled futures of their own design. I’ve seen catalytic transformative change that works to successfully address these issues through holistic and comprehensive solutions. Realized hope for a better future becomes an unstoppable force\nAbout the Speaker\n Margo Day is a life-long change-maker. She was first introduced to coding as a senior in high school and has paved the way for women in technology ever since. Margo had a fulfilling 34-year career in the tech industry\, 17 of which were spent as a senior leader at Microsoft\, including most recently as Vice President of U.S. Education\, where she focused on building up partnerships and breaking down barriers. She has been a steadfast leader and mentor to women and girls throughout her life\, and has devoted much of her energy towards achieving gender equality globally.\n \nMargo has spent the past decade fighting to eliminate child marriage and FGM\, creating a cycle of advocacy and prosperity for women and girls in Kenya by supporting World Vision and Global Give Back Circle projects. As a member of the Board of Directors for Global Give Back Circle\, and a member of the National Leadership Council for World Vision\, Margo’s dedication to transformational change has been instrumental in funding these programs and advocating for their growth so that they can continue to enact positive change for women and girls throughout Kenya.\n \nHaving seen what can be done when resources are applied strategically\, Margo left her position at Microsoft to co-found the Mekuno Project\, a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the root causes of child marriage and FGM within a generation and empowering girls to thrive in futures they design.\n\nIn her spare time\, Margo remains engaged in technology as a Board of Directors member for two artificial intelligence startup companies: Discourse Analytics and Vaital. She enjoys spending time in the great outdoors\, backpacking\, boating\, cycling\, scuba diving\, skiing\, and playing golf. She also loves adventure travel\, the theater\, and a great glass of Washington wine.

SUMMARY:Service\, Resilience and South American Adventures: A Leadership Journey
DESCRIPTION:Rebecca Fox – President & Chief Executive Officer\n\n\n\nNorthwest Kidney Centers \n\n\n\n\n\nRebecca is the current CEO of Northwest Kidney Centers – a role she took in March of 2020 just as the organization was responding to the loss of two of its patients who were the first two deaths from COVID-19 in our country.  She has been at the forefront of managing this pandemic since and this latest chapter marks another milestone in an unusual career that spans multiple industries\, countries and positions.  Her leadership and life reflect diverse and powerful experiences that begin in a small-town in Illinois and an opportunity with the local Rotary Club that changed her life. Rebecca will share her thoughts on leadership in her field\, the future of the health care industry\, and how we can begin to fix the fundamental flaws in healthcare. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nIn January 2020\, Rebecca Cofinas Fox\, a health care entrepreneur\, executive and advisor\, was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Northwest Kidney Centers. The Seattle-based nonprofit is the eighth-largest provider of life-sustaining kidney dialysis in the United States. It operates 19 clinics\, provides treatment in local hospitals and oversees patients who give themselves dialysis treatments at home. Education and research are also integral to its mission. \n\n\n\nCofinas Fox began her career in health care administration in the Cook County Health Care System in Chicago. She moved to San Diego in 2001 to join Scripps Health\, a $2.5 billion Fortune 500 company that operates four hospitals with 15\,000 employees and 3\,000 affiliated physicians. She held several leadership positions there\, including corporate vice president for clinical services. \n\n\n\nMore recently she built AristaMD\, a health care startup\, with the goal to be the market leader for e-consults. She raised more than $12 million in venture capital and built a product to replace routine in-office specialty care visits. \n\n\n\nCofinas Fox received a master’s degree in public health with high honors from Roosevelt University in Chicago\, and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana. She is a current fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and a fellow through the Advisory Board. \n\n\n\n“I’ve found Rebecca to be extremely insightful and an excellent communicator\,” said Rich Bloch\, chair of Northwest Kidney Centers board of trustees. “As well\, Rebecca’s capacity to learn is preceded only by her deeply analytical questioning. In these times of great change within the kidney care industry\, I’m grateful to have Rebecca on our team and am excited to work with her.” \n\n\n\nCofinas Fox will start work at Northwest Kidney Centers March 23. She becomes the fourth CEO in the organization’s history\, succeeding Joyce F. Jackson\, who served in the role for 21 years. \n\n\n\nNorthwest Kidney Centers ranks at the top of the industry in Medicare quality ratings for its services\, earning 4.46 out of 5 stars. Founded in Seattle in 1962\, Northwest Kidney Centers was the first dialysis organization in the world. Today it cares for 1\,800 people with chronic kidney failure\, providing 283\,000 treatments each year. For more information\, visit https://www.nwkidney.org.

SUMMARY:Investing to Protect Washington State's Natural Resources
DESCRIPTION:Hilary Franz – Commissioner of Public Lands\n\n\n\nWashington State Department of Natural Resources \n\n\n\n\n\nCommissioner Franz will share what the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is doing to protect our forest and other natural resources for the future! \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nElected in 2016\, Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz protects and manages nearly six million acres of public lands in Washington State – from coastal waters and aquatic reserves\, to working forests and farms\, to commercial developments and recreation areas. Commissioner Franz is committed to ensuring our public lands are healthy and productive\, both today and for future generations. \n\n\n\nShe is leading the push to make Washington’s lands resilient in the face of climate change\, investing in carbon sequestration and clean energy with wind\, solar\, and geothermal infrastructure. \n\n\n\nAs the leader of our state’s largest wildfire fighting force\, she has pushed for new strategies\, innovations\, and resources to protect our communities. \n\n\n\nIn order to restore wildfire resilience in our forests\, Commissioner Franz developed a 20-year Forest Health Strategic Plan. This plan will make more than one million acres of forest healthier and more resistant to wildfires – a scale and pace that is unprecedented. \n\n\n\nAnd she has prioritized investments in our rural communities\, allocating millions of dollars to spark economic opportunities in struggling communities. She knows that our working lands – and the communities that depend on them for family-wage jobs – are integral to our success as a state\, and she is investing in their success. \n\n\n\nHilary is a third-generation farmer and small forest landowner\, and has raised three wonderful boys. \n\n\n\nShe holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College and a juris doctor from Northeastern University Law School.

SUMMARY:Kontak Hydrogen Storage
DESCRIPTION:Bart Norton – Founder\, Inventor\, Entrepreneur\n\n\n\nKontak Hydrogen Storage\, LLC \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nToday Bart Norton\, an inventor and the Founder of Kontag Hydrogen Storage LLC (https://kontakhydrogenstorage.com/) will discuss the promise and problems associated with hydrogen as the green fuel of the future. \n\n\n\nHydrogen and energy have a long-shared history – powering the first internal combustion engines over 200 years ago to becoming an integral part of the modern refining industry. It is light\, storable\, energy-dense\, and produces no direct emissions of pollutants or greenhouse gases. But for hydrogen to make a significant contribution to clean energy transitions\, it needs to be adopted in sectors where it is almost completely absent\, such as transport\, buildings and power generation. \n\n\n\nThe Future of Hydrogen provides an extensive and independent survey of hydrogen that lays out where things stand now; the ways in which hydrogen can help to achieve a clean\, secure and affordable energy future; and how we can go about realizing its potential. \n\n\n\nHydrogen is today enjoying unprecedented momentum. The world should not miss this unique chance to make hydrogen an important part of our clean and secure energy future. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nBart Norton is an inventor and serial entrepreneur who has worked in the hydrogen space for over 10 years. He and his small team have succeeded in solving the storage and transportation of hydrogen where hundreds of millions of dollars of R&D have fallen short.
