DESCRIPTION:Matt Gregory – Evangelist\nKiwanis Club of Kirkland\nMatt Gregory’s talk this morning will include a brief history of community service and a partial comparison of community service organizations such as Kiwanis\, Rotary\, etc.  It will include an overview of Kiwanis at the international\, regional\, divisional and local levels\, with emphasis on his Kiwanis Club of Kirkland. \nAbout the Speaker\nMatt Gregory has been a member of the Kirkland Kiwanis Club since 1982. In 1997-98 he was their President and performed as Secretary from 2011 to 2017. He has chaired/served on countless committees and received multiple awards including Kiwanian of the Year in 1997 and 2013.  \nMatt has also been involved with the Pacific Northwest District of Kiwanis International as Lt. Governor twice\, webmaster from 2011 to 2017 and as club counselor to 2 new and 4 old Kiwanis clubs. He has attended numerous Kiwanis conferences and conventions\, served on the Pacific Northwest District’s Centennial and Finance Committees as well as 4 times on the District Governor’s team.  \nIn addition\, Matt has been Board Director of the Pacific Northwest Kiwanis Foundation (2018-20) 20 and received their Distinguished Service Award in 2022. He previously served on the Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation Board. \nIn his work life\, Matt was an architect and is now retired.

He retired from active duty in 2007.   \nHe worked as an operations analyst from 2007 to 2011\, and then became the Assistant Director of the International Pacific Halibut Commission\, retiring from there in 2020.  \nSteve first came to the Northwest in 1979 with Navy.  He and his family have made Seattle their home since 2001.

They were rescued by U.S. military ships\, rebuilt their lives in America\, and later founded the school Trieu now runs with three of his siblings. “If it wasn’t for the U.S. saving my parents at sea\, we would not be here\,” Trieu said of Everett-based EBC\, which his mother\, Thi\, and father\, Hoa\, founded in Lynnwood in 1996 after purchasing what was then the single-site Evergreen Beauty & Barber College. \nAbout the Speaker\nJoe Trieu is President of Evergreen Beauty College. He specializes in company and school culture\, sales and operations. He has used his sales skills to grow the student salon\, offering greater opportunities for future professionals to begin building their business while still in school so that graduates can begin reaping their return on investment sooner. Under Joe’s leadership along with his sister and 2 brothers\, they have taken their parents’ business from 6 employees to now the largest beauty school group in Washington State with 7 college campuses and nearly 1500 active students each year.\nSince 2010 as president\, Joe has: led Evergreen to its first National competition; had over 15 International top 3 finishes in the Business Student of the Year Competition; and been recognized by Modern Salon Magazine and as Family Business of the Year by Seattle Business Magazine. We will discuss the largest fundraising event upcoming in October and what the funds we raise go towards.  \nAbout the Speaker\nJohnna Long is from Washington State and first joined the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) in 2017 while living in New York City. She continued her involvement after she moved back to the Seattle area and joined the Washington State Board of Directors. Most recently she spent time speaking to congress members advocating two separate bills being pushed by AFSP\, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Effective Suicide Screening and Assessment in the Emergency Department Act of 2021.

He became an entrepreneur following a 25-year career in banking with roles ranging from; Senior Vice President\, Commercial Banking Team Leader; Managing Director of Treasury Management and Payment Solutions\, to; Head of Retail Banking and Marketing.  A graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School (2008)\, Anderson was named one of the banking industry’s ‘Rising Stars’ by the Independent Community Bankers Association (2009). DESCRIPTION:Valeriy Goloborodko  – Honorary Consul \nUkraine\nToday Vaerij Goloborodko will discuss the conflict in Ukraine. He\, more than any of us\, is close to this conflict due to his heritage and roles in the local and American Ukrainian community. \nAbout the Speaker\nValeriy Goloborodko was born and raised in Ukraine. When he was 24 years old\, he married and moved to the United States to\nstart his family. Since his first day on American soil\, Valeriy has shown great interest in serving his community and\nbeing an active member of both the Ukrainian and American communities.\nValeriy is a board member of the American European Bethel Mission. He served as chairman and then as a board member of\nthe Friends of Ukraine organization. Valeriy founded Goel Payment Solutions\, a company that provides a full spectrum of\nelectronic payment transferring services and has functioned as its president and CEO since 2009.  He also started the Ukrainian Business Association\, to facilitate starting up relationships between American and Ukrainian businesses\, which has merged with Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce\, for which Valeriy served on the board.\nIn 2014 Valeriy was appointed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine as Honorary Consul of Ukraine. Consular post headed by Honorary Consul Valeriy Goloborodko has in its jurisdiction Washington and Oregon states. Since 2016 Valeriy serves as a board member of Slavic Department at University of Washington advisory board.\nIn 2016 Valeriy co-founded and started NW Ukrainian International Festival\, the biggest Ukrainian cultural event on the West coast of USA and Canada. Event is done by the Pacific Ukrainian Society\, a nonprofit organization co-founded by Valeriy Goloborodko along with pillars of Ukrainian community of Washington State\, that is focused on development and maintenance of strong and friendly relationships between Ukraine and USA\, including through promoting culture\, education\, economic relationships and freedom.\nValeriy holds a Master’s degree from Shevchenko University in Law and a Management Information Systems Bachelor’s degree\nfrom International Christian University. Valeriy lives in Bellevue with his wife and four children.

Del Giudice  – Executive Director\nLittle Bit Therapeutic Riding Center\nLittle Bit Therapeutic Riding Center has been providing therapeutic horseback riding for those with disabilities for over 46 years on the eastside\, impacting thousands of children and adult riders and patients. But why is riding a horse so therapeutic? Paula Del Giudice\, executive director of Little Bit\, will share her insights and some of Little Bit’s success stories with Bellevue Rotary. \nAbout the Speaker\nPaula J. Del Giudice of Sammamish\, WA\, has been the Executive Director of the Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center for just over five years. She has served as executive director or regional director for three other nonprofit organizations in the Seattle area since 2002. In addition\, she has served on the Board of Directors of several religious\, arts\, and environmental nonprofits starting in her early 20s. In 1999\, she was elected by representatives from throughout the country to serve as the first woman volunteer board chair in the National Wildlife Federation’s 63-year history.  \nPaula holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Nevada\, Reno\, and a Master of Education degree from Regis University in Denver. She has two grown children\, two young grandchildren\, a very small dog whose name is Moo\, and a large golden retriever puppy named Birdie. In addition to her work with Little Bit\, she is President of the Rotary Club of Redmond. In her spare time\, she plays an adequate game of golf.

Cary and Alex will discuss this\, illustrated with examples from their personal experience.    \nAbout the Speaker\nCary is a longtime Eastside resident and 2000 – 2001 Past President of the BBRC.  He and his wife Jan are the proud parents of two successful sons…Jeffrey and Philip\, both attorneys. Cary is an avid adventurer\, having traveled to over 45 countries and explored many parts of our planet.  He has seen firsthand the challenges we face in preserving our world for future generations. Professionally\, Cary is the Founding Principal of an engineering firm based in Bellevue with an office in Chicago.  Most recently\, he is the immediate Past President of the American Concrete Institute\, the largest concrete industry organization in the world\, with over 30\,000 members in more than 100 countries.  ACI recently embarked on a major sustainability initiative to eliminate the concrete industry’s global carbon footprint\, which is currently almost ten percent of total carbon emissions worldwide.   \nAlex Rule is a Maine native\, moved to Seattle in the early 90’s to take advantage of all the outdoor activities the Northwest has to offer\, was a BBRC member from 1996-2016\, where his passion for nature was channeled toward the Preserve Planet Earth Committee. He met his wife\, Kim Edberg\, through Sharon Edberg\, who was President of BBRC at the time\, at a Rotary sponsored Preserve Planet Earth tree planting project.  Alex and Cary became good friends through their shared passion for nature and remain committed to continuing the tradition of seeking adventure together each year.\nAlex and Kim have two boys\, Liam (18) and Declan (16) and professionally\, Alex run Gallagher’s healthcare practice in the Western Region.\nAnd BBRC members who were around in 1996 know that the “hook” might be necessary whenever Alex has the mic in his hand!

DESCRIPTION:Rick Newell – Executive Director\nHope Herd\nRick Newell and his wife\, Rebecca\, started\, built up and handed off the very successful mentoring program called M.U.S.T. (mentoringisamust.org) that focuses on the most underserved black males in Seattle Public Schools. Now the Newell’s are using what they have learned to start a new mentoring program for youth in foster care.  \nAbout the Speaker\nRick Newell had a good career in technology working at companies like Microsoft\, Sun Microsystems and Cingular. Rick\, however\, felt he wanted to try something different. Instead\, he went to work at the Rotary Boys & Girls Club in the Central District of Seattle. Newell applied the same work ethic he gave in the corporate world to the kids at the club. The result was the youth he mentored won 9 national awards from a pool of 2 million kids over a 7-year period. From his years at the Boys & Girls Club Newell came to firmly believe that the need of the hour in the urban core is positive male role models. This belief caused Rick and his wife to start\, build and hand off the very successful mentoring program called M.U.S.T. (Mentoring Urban Students and Teens). Rick and his wife are now turning their attention to the world of foster care through their new organization called Hope Herd. Using the same basic model as M.U.S.T.\, they plan to pay and support young adults who grew up in foster care to mentor youth currently in foster care. Rick is happily married to his wife\, Rebecca\, and loves being a dad to his four boys.

Granddaughter of one of the founders and namesake\, Dick Spady\, she has worked at the business several times since she was 16 years old and started working full-time on the executive team in 2013. Jasmine stepped into the role of President when her father\, Jim Spady\, retired in late March 2019.  \nJasmine is on the board of the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce\, Mary’s Place and Seattle Restaurant Alliance. Jasmine was recognized by the Puget Sound Business Journal as a Woman of Influence in 2019. Jasmine graduated from Hillsdale College with a BS in Mathematics and Chemistry in 2006. She joined the Navy after college and was assigned as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Charleston\, SC. During her service she was the Command Public Affairs Officer\, earned her master training specialist certification\, and was the Division Director of the enlisted physics teaching division. While in Charleston\, Jasmine earned her Masters in Business with an emphasis in Finance at Charleston Southern University. Jasmine currently resides in North Seattle with her husband and two sons

Patti will serve in that capacity until a process for identifying a permanent Sheriff is completed. \nWhen she was Undersheriff\, Cole-Tindall was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office together with the team of three Division Chiefs. She oversaw the development and implementation of the King County Sheriff’s Office Strategic Plan and examination and strengthening of the Sheriff’s Office complaint and use of force review processes. \nBefore her promotion to Undersheriff\, in the summer of 2020\, Patti served as the Chief of Technical services Division for almost 5 years. Prior to joining the King County Sheriff’s Office in October 2015\, Cole Tindall served as the Director of the King County Office of Labor Relations for 6 years. \nPatti enjoys traveling and spending time with her friends and two sons.
